Cruising & Yachtmaster Instructor Assessments
If you have a RYA Yachtmaster (Offshore) certificate, it is possible to qualify at two levels as a sailing instructor. These are Cruising Instructor and Yachtmaster Instructor.
Cruising Instructor Training Course & Assessment
- The course is a formal assessment performed by an independent RYA Cruising Instructor Trainer and aims to develop and assess the instructional ability of the participants
- An intensive 5 day course to enable qualified Yachtmasters to develop their instructional skills at RYA Sail Cruising Instructor level.
- The course will major on teaching the elements of the Start Yachting, Competent Crew and Day Skipper Practical syllable and the ability to demonstrate techniques using real exercises and role play.
- Participants of this course should be prepared to teach any aspect of these rya sailing courses.
- Discussion will also include how to structure a course from client arrival to departure.

Yachtmaster & Cruising Instructor Training & Assessment (2 Day Prep + 5 Day Assessment)

An intensive 7 day activity to enable experienced Yachtmasters (Offshore) and Cruising Instructors to achieve the highest level of RYA instructional qualification

This challenging activity assumes competence and prior knowledge of all aspects of shorebased and practical syllabi up to and including Yachtmaster level.

An intensive two day preparation activity will ensure you start the independent RYA assessment in the right frame of mind

A five day assessment follows, conducted by two independent RYA Yachtmaster Instructor Examiners. Their prime objective is to assess your competence and ability to teach at all levels of the RYA Sail Cruisng scheme.

The prep and assessment exercises use role play and candidates are expected to perform short instructive talks and contribute to round table discussions.

A simulated helicopter rescue may feature as part of this course. This and many other features ensure participants also learn from realistic challenging experiences.

Yachtmaster & Cruising Instructor Re-qualification & Assessment – Sail (2 days)
RYA YMI and CI qualifications need to be renewed every 5 years. This intensive two day sailing activity provides an opportunity to re-qualify and retain the highest level of RYA instructional qualification.
The requalification activities for both Yachtmaster Instructors and Cruising Instructors are performed by RYA Yachtmaster Instructor Examiners.
